The APU Computer Store Offers Top Value and Service
November 15, 2012 | Written By Bethany Wagner
While Apple computer stores are known for their clean, sleek environment and friendly employees, Azusa Pacific University’s own Computer Store strives to bring a similar atmosphere to campus. Functioning on a solely nonprofit basis, the Computer Store sells all merchandise at wholesale and educational discount prices, and keeps APU on the forefront of technology by offering new Apple products upon release.
“There is no need to leave campus to buy Apple products,” said Greg Dominguez, Computer Store manager. “Everything—the products, environment, and customer service—is right here at APU.”
The store’s efforts were recently recognized by Apple who officially commended the Computer Store for having the highest iPad sales growth rate among 33 campus stores in the West Coast region. APU’s store ranked first on a list over California State University Fullerton, USC, and UCLA.
“By keeping current, we get access to digital resources only technology can provide,” said April (Overholt ’11) Carson, Computer Store coordinator. “Students still rely on computers as the main solution for their academic needs, but may not want to lug their computers to and from class. Instead, students can use iPads, which are lighter, easier to transport, and provide enough functionality for in-class use.”
Last summer, the Computer Store underwent extensive renovations, including a new streamlined floor plan, high-quality computer display tables, and a customer service counter to better provide students, faculty, and staff with assistance. Student employees now wear official shirts and receive thorough training in providing quality customer service, boosting the store’s friendly yet professional feel.
“All the student workers in the Computer Store are very helpful and willing to answer questions,” said Brianne Martin ’13, a student who purchased software there. “The store has a very professional atmosphere, and I was able to get the one-on-one help I needed. It’s a great resource for students on campus.”
From November 26 to December 21, the Computer Store will celebrate Christmas through its annual holiday sale, featuring discounted prices on iPods, iPads, computers, and accessories while supplies last.
“The Computer Store ultimately exists to serve the APU community—students, staff, and faculty. This is our mission and purpose,” said Carson.
The Computer Store is located behind the Felix Event Center (enter through Heritage Court) on APU’s West Campus and open Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. The store can be reached by phone at (626) 815-5096.
