APU Graduate and Professional Admission Requirements

Submit these materials for admission consideration to a master’s, doctoral, accelerated bachelor’s completion, or other professional program at Azusa Pacific. To make sure you meet all eligibility and application requirements, find your program of interest and review any additional guidelines.

To apply for graduate admission to Azusa Pacific University, you must submit these materials to the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions:

  • Graduate application for admission
  • $45 application fee: The application fee is nonrefundable and must be paid before the application can be processed
  • The application fee is waived for those who have earned a degree previously from APU
  • Proof of an earned bachelor’s degree: Submit official documentation that you completed your bachelor’s degree (and any other master’s degrees) with a minimum 3.0 GPA from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Refer to individual program requirements for specific admissions policies and allowances

Next Steps for Graduate Students

Once your file is complete, with all items submitted in full, it is forwarded to the department for a program acceptance decision. The department notifies the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions, which then notifies you about your admissions decision. You will receive a letter if the department has made a program acceptance decision and you are admitted to the university, or if you do not meet the minimum university admission requirements and are denied admission.

  • Complete your online application
  • Submit the $45 application fee

If you want to take coursework at Azusa Pacific for personal or career enrichment, admission as a nondegree student allows you to take classes at the graduate or professional level without completing a degree, certificate, or credential program.

If you are approved to take courses as a non-degree-seeking student, you should be aware that the courses do not count toward a degree program and do not generally qualify you for any financial aid, unless they are taken as a prerequisite for an APU graduate program. Classes for nondegree students are available at the main Azusa campus, online, and at other regional campuses.

To enroll in a course as a nondegree student,

  • complete the application for admission, selecting the “Nondegree” option under the college dropdown menu;
  • complete the Nondegree Intent Form (PDF);
  • submit the $45 application fee; and
  • send official transcripts, including proof of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Not all classes are available to non-degree-seeking students. Contact the Student Services Center for details on class availability.

What Graduate Students Say About APU

Matthew Lanzone smiles in front of APU's prayer wall.

“APU solidified my faith. I feel like I have a different perspective on life now. The faculty pray with us before every exam, which I had never experienced before, but now I always do it. It helps calm me down and focus more on the exam. The faculty does such a good job of modeling their faith in everyday life.”

Policies and Resources

This information will help you navigate the APU admissions and enrollment process for in-person and online programs. Our admissions representatives know general and program-specific requirements and are here to support you throughout the process.

Official transcripts are required for all degrees, certificates, and credentials earned prior to application to APU. Official transcripts for other college coursework not leading to a degree, certificate, or credential may be required by the relevant APU department for program acceptance consideration.

An official transcript is one that Azusa Pacific University receives unopened in an envelope sealed by the former institution and that bears the official seal of the college or university. APU reserves the right to require transcripts sent directly from the former institution. The baccalaureate degree transcript is required even if you have earned a master’s degree prior to applying to APU.

Once filed, transcripts are subject to applicable federal and state laws and regulations and cannot be returned to the applicant or forwarded to other educational institutions.

APU Alumni Transcript Requirements

As an APU alumnus, you do not need to request official transcripts for baccalaureate coursework from the undergraduate registrar. When you apply to a graduate program, the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions will obtain a copy for your graduate admission file.

International Transcript Requirements

International transcripts must be translated into English, certified by an authorized official, and include the posted degree. International transcripts must be evaluated by an approved agency, which creates an official Degree/Transcript Equivalency Report to verify that the international degree is comparable to a degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.

An official copy of this Degree/Transcript Equivalency Report is submitted with your official transcript for university admission consideration. Contact the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions for a list of approved agencies.

Graduate and professional admissions at Azusa Pacific University are program-specific. If you change plans and wish to enroll in a program other than that to which you were accepted, you must file a Change of Program form available through the Student Services Center. Send questions about this process to the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions at admissions@apu.edu. If you are an international student, contact International Services.

An admissions representative will contact you if any further documentation or materials are required for this program change. No credit toward the new degree program will be granted until written program acceptance is secured.

If you aim to earn your APU graduate or professional degree through an online program, check whether we offer distance education in your state. Eligible states change often, so contact us at admissions@apu.edu for the most up-to-date information.

To help you earn a high-quality graduate or professional education if you are unable to attend Azusa Pacific University’s main campus in Azusa, we offer programs at several locations throughout Southern California.
