Which Helping Profession Should You Choose?
Helping professions emphasize meeting others’ needs and using your skills to help
them flourish. When it comes to choosing the right helping profession, it’s important
to know the differences between each field and why you may be more drawn to one area
over another. Here’s what to know if you’re interested in pursuing a career in marriage and family
therapy, social work, or school psychology.
Professional Accreditation
APU’s School of Behavioral Sciences values the importance of developing programs of distinction and academic integrity. The university is accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).
Professional programs in the School of Behavioral Sciences have earned the following accreditations:
- The APU PsyD program is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA)1 Commission on Accreditation. APA accreditation recognizes that the program meets the standards for quality programs in psychology as stated in the APA Guidelines and Principles for Accreditation of Programs in Professional Psychology.
- The DPT program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
- The BSW and MSW programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
