University PromenadeThe CCC has been providing school-based behavioral health services since 1998. Through contracts with Azusa and Glendora unified school districts, counseling is provided to students at the schools during school hours, and at the CCC office for family counseling or crisis management. Parental consent for services is required before start of treatment. Parental engagement in the assessment and treatment planning is highly encouraged. Sessions generally span an 8-week period, depending on need. The CCC has the capacity to extend services at additional school districts.
The school-based program includes but is not limited to the following services:
- Anxiety
- Anger
- Depression
- Conduct problems
- Self-esteem
- Grief and loss
- Divorce
- Family conflict
- Relationship conflict
- Problem solving
- Performance issues and regression
- School transitions
- Social isolation
- Student/teacher conflicts
- Group counseling
- Case management
- Teacher presentations
- Parent workshops
- Crisis management
Before developing a collaborative relationship with any school, program leaders meet with administrators, school principals, and other relevant parties to better facilitate the following:
- Understanding the school’s needs
- Understanding the teachers’ needs
- Understanding the students’ needs
- Determining the community’s resources
- Ensuring that the CCC is prepared to meet these needs
- Establishing a collaborative working relationship
Benefits to Schools
- Counseling provided to students during school hours and on the premises (unless not therapeutically appropriate)
- Close connection and collaboration with CCC administration and staff
- Coordination with schools’ selected staff members, teachers, and school psychologists
- Collaboration with outside mental health or physical health agencies
- Availability of services from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday–Friday
- Services reviewed 90-180 days into the contract
- Services offered in English and Spanish; other languages may be available
