About the Department

The modern classroom environment encompasses a wide array of cultural backgrounds, social levels, and learning abilities. The programs offered in this Department prepare professionals with an in-depth understanding of the numerous issues facing students today. Graduates can better communicate with students and families as they facilitate the learning process for children.

The school counseling credential is obtained simultaneously along with the corresponding Master of Arts in Education: Educational Counseling or Master of Arts in Education: Educational and Clinical Counseling master’s degrees. Similarly, the school psychology credential is obtained simultaneously along with the corresponding Education Specialist degree in School Psychology. A school counseling or school psychology credential is essential to obtaining a position as a school counselor or school psychologist in the public school setting.

The Education Specialist degree in School Psychology with the Applied Behavior Analysis Specialization meets the educational requirements for eligibility as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and the program places candidates on the leading edge of the mental health profession, enabling them to impact the lives of individuals with autism and developmental disabilities through Applied Behavior Analysis.

APU’s innovative Master of Arts in Education: Educational and Clinical Counseling and Education Specialist degree in School Psychology with the Clinical and Educationally Related Mental Health Counseling Specialization programs embed preparation for LPCC certification within the graduate program.
