Bonita L. Huiskes, PhD, FNP-BC, RN

Bonita (Bonnie) Huiskes obtained her basic nursing education at the LA County/USC School of Nursing, a BA from the University of Redlands, and a BSN and MSN from Azusa Pacific University. She returned to APU for a Post-Master’s Certificate as an FNP and worked as a nurse practitioner in a heart failure clinic at Loma Linda University Medical Center for more than a decade. Her previous nursing experience includes working in critical care, outpatient cardiac and pulmonary rehab, and establishing an emergency department chest pain program. Dr. Huiskes completed her doctoral work at the UCSF School of Nursing; her dissertation addressed older women with advanced heart failure and preserved systolic function. Her interests are comfort (the subject of her master’s thesis), heart failure and educating the next generation of advanced practice nurses.
