Joy Ericson, MSN, RN, CPN is an instructor in the traditional undergraduate program. She is a second-career nurse with experience in pediatrics, medical-surgical, home health, and hospice nursing. Her first degree was a BA in Spanish with a minor in Teaching English as a Second Language from UCLA. After serving as an interpreter for nurses presenting in South America at an oncology nursing conference, Joy came home and began her nursing studies. She graduated from LA County College of Nursing with an associates degree in nursing. She then worked with patients from a few days to nearly 100 years old before deciding to specialize in pediatrics. She earned a BSN and an MSN in Nursing Education from Western Governors University, where she gained an appreciation for competency-based nursing education.
Joy’s interests include cultural competence in nursing, patient/caregiver education and empowerment, and the holistic care of patients and families impacted by epilepsy. She is passionate about mentoring students as they experience the wonder of nursing. As nurses care for patients and families they gain a deeper appreciation of God’s love and care for the people He created in His image.
