Paul A. Flores, PhD has an interest in academic service learning as it relates to cultural diversity and academic achievement, pre-service teacher education and faith integration. His courses are both student- and subject-centered and include service-learning components. A variety of pedagogical methods and technology are also integrated to effectively deliver classroom content along with engaging students in critical thinking and problem solving discussions. Students participate in local public schools in a variety of academic settings including special education, serving while learning course objectives and subject matter fitting of elementary school teachers. Research interests include academic service-learning and cultural diversity integrated with teacher preparation. In addition, faith integration in all courses encourages a Christian perspective of truth and life. His pursuit of a PhD in higher education along these themes utilized both quantitative and qualitative research methods. He has presented research at both international, national, and local conferences along with Christian and teacher education organizations. Dr. Flores also serves as the director of the liberal studies major helping to develop the program through collaboration with peers to meet the California state standards for elementary subject matter while integrating various service projects and satisfying graduation requirements.
