My name is Richard Mendez Jr and I started my journey in medical care as an EMT. I desired more and went back to school and obtained my BSN from APU in 2018. After graduating, I started my nursing career in the ICU at Community Hospital San Bernardino. In that role I have served not only as a floor nurse, but as a charge nurse, rapid-response/ code blue lead nurse, and interim nurse educator. I have been fortunate enough to be nominated for two Daisy Awards and been the recipient of one Daisy Award. I have always had a heart and passion for precepting and teaching and began my teaching journey as an adjunct instructor for APU in 2020. I went back to school to further my education and graduated with my MSN-Ed from Grand Canyon University in 2022. I was inducted in the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society while attending GCU. I have since continued to teach at APU, but now as a didactic instructor as well. I love teaching and it gives me great joy to see my students succeed and especially when I hear students excited about feeling they can really connect classroom learning to clinical experiences.
