William “Jody” Wilkinson, MD, MS, brings a wealth of experience to Azusa Pacific University’s Department of Kinesiology. Since joining the faculty in 2015, he has leveraged his expertise in exercise physiology, clinical practice, and innovative teaching technology to enrich the department’s curriculum and enhance student learning. Wilkinson is the chair of the Department of Kinesiology and the coordinator of the CORE 101 Cultivating Wellness course.
Before joining APU, Wilkinson held leadership positions at the Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas, serving as the medical director for research and director of the Center for Weight Management. He began his teaching career in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
As a scholar, Wilkinson has authored two books, contributed to textbook chapters, and published peer-reviewed research on exercise and weight management. His research interests include exercise physiology, obesity, and health behavior change.
Committed to service, he actively volunteers with Back on My Feet, a national organization that combats homelessness through running. In his personal life, he enjoys the outdoors and endurance activities such as cycling, trail running, and hiking. He is married and has four adult children.
