Meet the Staff

Tom headshot

Tom Wilson, PhD

Director of Online Learning

Tom leads the team that designs and builds fully online courses. Tom has a PhD and MS in Instructional Design and Technology. His research interests are multimedia instruction and mobile learning. Prior to joining APU, he was associate dean of online learning at another institution. Tom’s interest in learning through multimedia stems from his experience as a TV writer/producer in Hawaii.

Steve McLean

Assistant Director, Instructional Technology

Steve provides operational and technical leadership for APU’s various instructional technology systems. He also serves as the administrator for the learning management system (LMS), ensuring its efficient operation and ongoing maintenance. In addition, he partners with key stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and implement appropriate instructional technologies that advance the university’s teaching and learning mission.

Andrew Jittu, MA

Operational Data Manager

Andrew is responsible for processing and maintaining registration and enrollment data within APU’s learning management system. He works closely with the three registrar offices to establish terms and course schedules for online and face-to-face courses. He also provides support for faculty and students in course creation and access to the learning management system.

Tim Schreffler

Instructional Technology Coordinator

Tim ’11 provides faculty training and support on the use of technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience, including mobile learning. He collaborates with the Instructional Support Manager to resolve instructional support tickets, coordinate course imports, and develop training resources. As a graduate of APU with a BA in Youth Ministry, Tim strives to serve the community and faculty who helped shape him.

Katie Price, MA

Online Instructional Designer

Katie works with subject-matter experts from various schools to develop courses and programs for online offering. Katie is an APU graduate (BA in Liberal Studies ’05, K–8 Teaching Credential ’06, MA in Educational Technology ’12), and hopes she can share her love for and experience in education and technology with the community that has given so much to her.

Joseph Kim, MA

Online Learning Design Specialist

Joseph works with subject-matter experts to develop programs and courses for online offering. His experiences include teaching and developing ESL curriculum, advising undergraduate and graduate students pursuing online degrees, and developing curriculum for youth, college students, and adults in church settings. He holds an MA in Cross Cultural Studies and an MA in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and is pursuing an EdS in Educational Technology at the University of Missouri.

Elaine Monahan, MA

Online Instructional Designer

Elaine brings with her more than 20 years of online instructional design and development experience and more than 15 years of online and on-the-ground teacher experience. She has worked in higher education and in the corporate sector, and her core competencies include e-learning and multimedia design, project management, technical writing, and instructor training. Elaine earned an MA from USC and continues to use technology to support learning initiatives. She is an avid hiker and backpacker and enjoys the outdoors any time she can.

Traci Frees, MA

Online Instructional Designer

Traci offers more than 15 years of experience in higher education in such roles as program chair, faculty, and instructional designer. She enjoys working with subject-matter experts in a variety of fields to develop innovative online content that delights and engages learners. Traci earned an MA from Auburn University and her interests include multimedia development, accessibility, outcomes assessment, and agile learning design. She enjoys hiking with her husband and labs, writing, and capturing the beauty of God’s creation through video and amateur photography.

Jung Kim, MA

Online Instructional Designer for Organization Development

Jung works with subject-matter experts to design and develop online training courses and modules for APU employees. She has worked as a graphic designer, coordinator, instructor, curriculum developer, and instructional designer at various California community colleges and universities. Jung earned a BA in Graphic Design with a minor in physics and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). She enjoys hiking, traveling, and growing succulent plants.
