Gathering student feedback midway through a course enables an instructor to make adjustments
before a class is over, so that student learning is optimized. Soliciting such feedback
also sends a signal to students about instructor responsiveness and collaboration
in the learning process. This feedback is entirely formative in nature—no one sees
it but the instructor and it does not factor into any final evaluation. There are
several ways instructors can gain such feedback from students:
Distributing an anonymous feedback form in class or online to students midway through
the term (see link below to sample form that you can adapt for your own use)
Taking 10 minutes at the end of a class period to distribute index cards and collect
feedback from students (example: “Any suggestions you have for how to make this course
even better”)
