Academic Affairs Mission

The Division of Academic Affairs strives to create an environment of inclusion, equity, and educational opportunity for all faculty, staff, and students. We cultivate and promote academic excellence in faith-integrated teaching and learning, scholarship, creative achievement, and community engagement in alignment with the university mission. The division works with an extensive group of campus partners to design curricula, set academic policy, and provide oversight for academic budgetary and development priorities in alignment with the university’s strategic plan.

Fostering Academic Excellence

Azusa Pacific University is firmly committed to graduating men and women who seek to positively change the world in the name of Christ. From every corner of our university, faculty, staff, and administrators are committed to fostering an atmosphere wherein academics are not simply taught but lived.

Experts in their respective fields, APU faculty are passionate about the subjects they teach and consistently challenge their undergraduate and graduate students to reach impressive goals that will prepare them for their future careers. We encourage you to get to know some of our faculty through our brief faculty videos.

Preparing students to positively engage the world’s most pressing social issues with character and competence begins with the foundation of four essential elements that an APU education provides:

  • Competence: Students engage in comprehensive and relevant scholarship, gain knowledge of human culture and the physical and natural world, and exercise intellectual and practical skills.
  • Character: Students focus on character development, faith integration, spiritual formation, and developing a Christ-centered, biblical, and theological model of reasoning.
  • Community: Students participate in meaningful service-learning experiences, explore personal and social responsibility, and have the opportunity to live and learn within a community of diverse perspectives.
  • Critical Thinking: Students collaborate on assignments and projects, experience meaningful access to transformational education, and critically apply and evaluate knowledge in and outside of the classroom context.
