APU Students

While they are enrolled at APU, students have access to a large collection of print and online materials. Current students are automatically entered into the Libraries’ circulation database, which allows them to check out books and media and access online materials. Mailing is free of charge, and prepaid return envelopes are included. Books and media may be requested by selecting “By Mail” as the pickup location when a request is being made from the library catalog or ILL forms.

Course Reserves

Faculty members may place volumes from the APU collections, personal copies of books, and photocopies of journal articles on reserve for the special limited use of the students in their classes. A Reserve Request Form must be completed for each course that will have materials placed on the Reserve Desk. Requests to have materials placed on Reserve should be made at least 72 hours before the items are needed; this time is necessary for the Circulation staff to prepare the materials for use.

For more information on reserve policies, copyright guidelines, and the Reserve Request Forms, see the Course Reserves page.

Suggest Materials for Purchase

Faculty members may request materials to be purchased for the libraries' collections by contacting the subject specialist for their department.

Schedule a Library Instruction Session

Through the Library Instruction Program, librarians offer instruction sessions covering research strategies, information literacy, and online and printed resources. To arrange a library session, contact the subject specialist for your department, or fill out the online library instruction request form.

APU regional campus, online, and off-campus students, faculty, and staff hold the same privileges and responsibilities as Azusa campus patrons, but their materials will be mailed (books, media, and kits) or emailed (articles) from the Azusa campus libraries. Mailing is free of charge, and prepaid return envelopes are included. Books and media may be requested by selecting “By Mail” as the pickup location when a request is being made from the library catalog or ILL forms.

Alumni

APU alumni may borrow books from the APU libraries, and may access online library databases from on campus (currently, remote access to online databases is limited to current students, faculty, and staff). Alumni may borrow 25 books at one time. The checkout period is 21 days, with two renewals allowed per item. For more information about alumni borrowing privileges, see the Circulation page.

An alumni ID card is required and may be obtained for a one-time $5 fee by visiting Darling or Marshburn libraries, or by contacting the Office of Alumni Engagement at (626) 812-3026 or alumni@apu.edu.

To borrow materials, visitors must complete the APU Guest Library Patron Registration form, available at the Circulation Desk at the Stamps, Marshburn, and Darling libraries, and present it with a photo ID.

In addition, APU alumni must present an alumni card (available from the Office of Alumni Engagement), and area clergy must present a business card. SCATLA members must present the card issued by their school. SCELC members must present the form issued by their school. Community residents can pay $20 per year for the privilege of using the internet or $100 per year for internet use and book check-out privileges. Courtesy Patrons must live in the following cites to be eligible for a Courtesy Patron Card: Azusa, Glendora, Covina, West Covina, San Dimas, La Verne, Monrovia, Irwindale, Claremont, Pomona, Diamond Bar, or Walnut. The fee is waived for APU alumni, area clergy, and SCATLA and SCELC members.

Courtesy Patrons must present a photo ID and a valid Courtesy Patron card to check out books (maximum five items per visit). Date due bookmarks are available at the Circulation Desk. The loan period for most materials is three weeks. Reserve materials may not be checked out by Courtesy Patrons. Because of our contractual arrangements with the organizations involved, Courtesy Patrons are not permitted to use the University's InterLibrary Loan or LINK+ facilities.

Courtesy Patrons do not have access to online library account functions. Renewals can be requested by contacting the circulation desk at the Stamps, Marshburn, or Darling libraries.

Visitors

The university welcomes patrons not affiliated with APU as a student, faculty member, or staff member to use the APU libraries’ resources. Priority is given to the APU community, and certain restrictions on database use and electronic resources may exist. Although we try to accommodate all library patrons, APU students, faculty and staff do have priority over Courtesy Patrons in the use of library facilities and services.
